Interview

Are you also jumping for awesome facts of RAMMSTEIN? Why by example only ladies are allowed to get backstage and whether their pyroshow is safe? Bassist Olli: 'Eh we have had some small accidents in the past'...

Break-Out:Never had any lessons?Oliver:Neither one of us has had a musical school. That is better, otherwise you could only play boring schedules. We like to do the crazy stuff, improvize and thinking of ridiculous solo's. A musical school only sickens your talent.

Break-Out:So Rammstein's first performance was a great success? Oliver:Eh, well... that was 6 years ago, in Leipzig. The music was ok, though we were nothing much to look at. We were so nervous, that we were standing on stage like wooden sticks.

Break-Out:You are still doing that!Oliver:Yes, but that is part of the show. Also there is a lot more to look at now. We have a lot of attributes on stage and we do a lot with firework.

Break-Out:Nice 'n tuffOliver:No it isn't, all that we think of might be dangerous, but a professional company works out our ideas. They are the ones that make the pyroshow work and take care of the safety.

Break-Out:So the hairs of your fans are safe? Oliver:Absoluteley. Everything has been checked and we have also adjusted our show for the dutch crowd. Actually the plan was to let firework rockets flying over the heads of fans, but then we heard you have had an accident with fire...

Break-Out:You mean the disasters in Enschede? Oliver:Exactly, we have taken the rockets out of the schedule, our show is 100% safe.

Break-Out:Always has been? Oliver:Eh, there have been little mistakes, someone was holding an iron shield on stage that caught fire. The thing fell on the first row and hurt a few people. We felt so bad that we went along with them in an ambulance and drove to the hospital.

Break-Out:How come you are so popular all of a sudden? Oliver:If we knew THAT... if there would exist a recipe for good music you could take patent on it and start a little business! We have just been lucky. Maybe you shouldn't hope for success. Then it will happen by itself.

Break-Out:But I am sure not everyone understands your german lyrics? Oliver:That doesn't matter, does it? I used to sing along with american bands without understanding their lyrics. It is about a good atmosphere and you can hop along with the music.

Break-Out:Too bad! You work so hard on the lyrics... Oliver:If you really want to know what we sing about, you can find out easially. Look on the internet or grab a dictionary and translate our lyrics.

Break-Out:Is it true that only women are allowed backstage? Oliver:Eh, yes. It is fun to have pleasent company after a show right?

Break-Out:As if men aren't fun. Oliver:Well, let me say it another way. After a show it is nice to have pleasent company, have a party, and maybe an exciting night.

Break-Out:But aren't you all on the women? Oliver:Not all, I am no longer single, so I get bored sometimes when the rest is getting on with the women again.

Break-Out:Why are we doing this interview in german by the way? Oliver:Eh, because my English isn't so good? I would like to learn Dutch, but it seems to be a difficult language. But it went good like this right? I am glad the people here speak German. I can at least talk with you guys. If we do interviews in France, there always needs to be a translator. That is miserable!
