Rammstein Frequently Asked Answers

Songs

What does "Du Hast" mean?

"Du hast" does not mean "you hate," but really "you have." Yes, I know that on the english version of du hast at the end of the Sehnsucht album Till sings "you hate," but to really say you hate, there has to be another s, du hasst. The infinitive form of hate is hassen, while the infinitive form of have is haben. Haben is an irregular verb, so when it's conjugated into the you/du form, it's hast. The only reason the song was "translated" as 'you hate' is to appeal to an english speaking audience, but luckily, radios refused to play this version of the song and stuck to the german version. The same applies to Engel's "english version."

What is Schwarzes Glas?

The song Schwarzes Glas is a Rammstein song that was never officially released. It was given to the original German fanclub members.

Is this a Rammstein song?

There are a lot of mislabeled songs on Napster and other p2p applications. Here are a list of some of the common ones and the band that it actually belongs to. If you do not see the song on this list, that does not mean it is a Rammstein song. If you cannot find a song in the releases section or the lyrics section, than the song is not a Rammstein song.

  • Es ist nicht Leicht ein Gott zu sein/Gott sein - Megaherz
  • Mitten ins Herz - Oomph!

  • Witt Heppner Die Flut/Die Flut - Joachim Witt f/Paul Heppner

  • Blutige Risse - Rammstein (Feuerräder)
  • Leichenhalle - Die Ärzte
  • Die Prinzessen - Schmerz
  • Sad but True (Metallica cover) - Die Krupps (?)

Who is the guest singer in this song?

On the songs Engel from Sehnsucht and Nebel from Mutter, Bobo guest sings. On the songs Sonne and Hallelujah from Mutter, the female voice is a sampling from the "Symphony of Voices." On Spieluhr, Khira Li guest sings. On Moskau, the singer is Viktoria Fersh, not Tatu.

What orchestra is in Mein Herz Brennt, Nebel, and Mutter?

The orchestra used on the Mutter album is the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg and is conducted by Günter Joseck.

What is the closing music on Live Aus Berlin and the Mutter tour?

The song at the end of Live Aus Berlin and the Mutter tour is "Was hast du mit meinem Herz getan?" by Nicolas Lens and is sung by Claron McFadden.

What songs have Rammstein covered?

Why does Till say zwo instead of zwei in Links 2 3 4?

During Links 2 3 4, Till says "zwo" instead of "zwei" because zwei and drei sound too much alike. When on the phone, Germans will use zwo a lot so as not to confuse 2 with 3.

Videos

Is that really Till's daughter in the Live Aus Berlin video?

Khira Li Lindemann is the little girl in the Live Aus Berlin video during the song "Tier." No, she's not Till's daughter. According to Alex Becker, Till and his wife divorced, but she kept the name Lindemann. She later dated Richard and had a child with him, but they never married. So, it's actually Richard's daughter.

Who is the actress in this video?

The actress in the Du Riechst so Gut '98 is Maja Müller. Snow White is played by Joulia Stepanova. She is a Russian soap opera actress. During many parts though, it's not really her. It's a basketball player and Joulia's arms and head are superimposed onto his body.

What movies have any members of Rammstein been in?

Till and Christoph have been in the French movie, Pola-X. Their parts are VERY small. They both play drummers in the background with no speaking lines.
Rammstein performed the song Bück dich in the movie The Debtors, but the movie was never released due to legal problems.
Rammstein perform the song Feuer frei! in the opening scenes of the movie xXx (not a porn).
Till was in the German children's movie, Amundsen, der Penguin.
No one from Rammstein was in any of The Crow movies.

Band

What are Rammstein's political views?

The members of Rammstein are not and have never been nazis. They even made a song, called Links 234 (Left 234), that states that 'their heart beats on the left side' not on the right side (nazi's are on the right side of the political spectrum).

What are Rammstein's religious views?

Religion is not something the band members talk much about, whether it be their own religion or other religions. I suspect that they were raised as Christians, but only celebrate the holidays like Christmas.

Was Till a swimmer in the Olympics?

There have been a lot of rumors about Till being an Olympic swimmer in the 1988 Olympics, but he wasn't. In the Rammstein trivia contest on the Live Aus Berlin DVD, one of the questions asks about Till's swimming career. He was a European Youth Swimming Champion. He tore a muscle in his abdomen ending his swimming career and if you look closely in the LAB video, you may be able to see a scar on his stomach.

Did a Rammstein member die?

Nope, they are all alive and well. This rumor started sometime in the Fall of 1999 when bassist Christoph Zimmerman from the band Blind Passengers was killed in a plane crash in Mexico. A Mexican paper there reported that Christoph Zimmerman was the touring bassist for Rammstein. The only connection that Zimmerman has to Rammstein is that he used to be in Feeling B along with Paul and Flake.

What is Richard's last name and middle name?

After Richard married Caron Bernstein, he took her last name. According to Richard, the "Z" in his middle name stands for Sonne, a few of us don't get that and aren't sure if he was actually serious. But, if he was serious, Richard's name is Richard Sonne Kruspe-Bernstein. Someone else emailed me that his middle name is "Zeke." Others say Zwen or Swen. Who knows?

Are Rammstein gay?

No.

Touring

When will Rammstein play in my town?

Check the tour dates section to see if Rammstein is scheduled to play in your town. If a date is not listed for your area, that means either it has not been released or confirmed yet or that Rammstein will not be playing there. I have no advance knowledge of where or when they will be playing.

Will Rammstein play in my town?

Just like the previous question, check the tour dates section. If your town is not listed, that could mean the city has not been added yet or that Rammstein will not be playing there. Sometimes, a good indication as to what cities they play in a particular country can be figured out by looking at the past tour dates which can be found in the tour dates section. I have no advance knowledge of where or when they will be playing.

Have Rammstein played in my town?

If you want to know where Rammstein has already played and what they played, check out the past tour dates in the tour dates section. As much info as I could find about those dates have been added, like setlists, venues, support acts, and interesting information.

Miscellaneous

What does "Rammstein" mean?

"Rammstein" is translated to "ramming stone" but that isn't why the group chose the name. They chose the name after the terrible plane crash at Ramstein (note only one 'm' in the spelling) Air Base. That is what the song "Rammstein" is about. I have the video from the accident in my video section.

How come your translations don't match what I get on Babelfish?

Babelfish is only good for single word or (if you're lucky) small phrase translations. Babelfish does a direct translation of the text so it really doesn't make much sense.

How do you beat the computerspiel?

Go here for a detailed description on how to beat the computerspiel found on the Das Modell single.

What is that liquid in Bück dich?

The liquid that is shot out from the dildo during Bück dich is, according to Flake in a launch.com interview: What we want to know is what does squirt out of Lindemann's "instrument" onstage? "Now it's Pernod [a French liqueur] and water," laughs Flake. "It smells good. Last year, we got milk and it was horrible--it created quite an odor. And then he tried a powdered mix, but that, shall we say, clogged the pipe. As much as he tried, nothing came out. And we know how embarrassing it is when nothing comes out!"

How do you make the umlauted letters and the Eszett?

If you want to use german letters, I have two ways of doing it. There are more ways, but I find these the easiest. Go here.

What is the name of the flower on the original Herzelid album?

The name of the flower on the original Herzeleid cover is Gerberra daisy. The cover was later changed because of complaints that the original cover art looked like it was portraying the master race.

When will [insert album/single/dvd/video] be released?

Release dates are listed in the news and/or on that particular releases page in the releases section. If you do not see a release date listed, that is because it is not known yet. Sometimes release dates will be grouped together - if an album is going to be released in France on a certain day, chances are that other European countries with the same music release schedules will also see it on that day.

I heard this Rammstein news and was wondering if it's true? / I saw this MySpace profile and am wondering if it's real?

Do you think a band member is contacting you? They probably are not.

  • Think about it, why would one of the guys contact YOU out of all people. There are millions of Rammstein fans. I'm sure you're special in your own little way, but you're not THAT special to be picked out of millions of fans. Besides, other than concerts, the band does not have much, if any, contact with their fans.
  • Can the supposed band member even speak German? I don't mean Rammstein German or basic German, I mean fully fluent German? I've had people contact me pretending to be Till that couldn't speak a word of German.
  • Does the timezone match up with what they're saying. If you live in California and it's 11pm and the person tells you that he's going to sleep now, it's really 6-7am in Germany. Chances are, he wouldn't be going to sleep that late - these are grown men with families.
  • Did they tell you something very personal, something that you can't verify? Why would he tell a stranger something so personal? Is he only telling you things that everyone already knows from public interviews? If he can't give you any new info that is verifiable, he's not real.
  • He probably has a digital camera (most people do nowadays), ask him to send you a picture of himself holding a piece of paper with your name on it.

Fake MySpace profiles There are many MySpace profiles for the band and for individual band members. NONE of them are official.

  • Any official ones would likely be linked to on rammstein.com
  • Are all of the pictures on their site promotional pictures or live concert pictures? Are any of them original that were not accessible on the internet previously?
  • It takes 2 minutes for anyone to set up a MySpace page, put up some pictures, and add some false information.

Fake News The recent fake news story that came out about Till leaving the band was actually a very "good" lie. The person that sent the email faked their email address to look like it was an official email address. They did it while the owner of herzeleid.com was on vacation and his forums were down (they are finally back up now). They used the manager's name and company. The language of the "statement" from the manager was in very bad English, like rammstein.com. They knew that En Esch, the singer supposedly replacing Till, recently moved back to Berlin. MANY music news sites picked up this news and also posted it. All of these things separately are no big deal, but having them all combined together made the hoax almost convincing. However, there were still little things to pick up on that could tell you it was a hoax.

  • The statement from the manager seemed to only appear in English and was translated into German. Any statement from a German band would have first been in German and then translated to English.
  • Part of the statement read "the industrial gothic top act RAMMSTEIN." I don't believe their manager would refer to the band like that.
  • Also, the band has previously said that if a member of the band were to leave, that would be the end of Rammstein. This was said years ago and things can change over time, however, we're talking about a lead singer, the face of the band leaving. That person is incredibly difficult, although not impossible, to replace.
  • The statement also said that maybe Till will go on to form a new project. Till is getting old and he does not seem like the type to want to start over with a new band. Once Rammstein is done, I think it is very likely that his musical career is done, too.
  • The statement also said that the new album is almost finished, but they just recently started. We all know that Rammstein takes a very long time to work on their albums.
  • I do believe that something this serious for the band would be announced on their website, their record label's website, or on their management's website the day that the statement is issued.
  • Consider the source of the news: Blabbermouth, which has been right on many occassions, also has been wrong on other occassions. Hearing news from a friend, especially one that knows very little about Rammstein except that you like them, is not going to hear big news before you. Ask them where they heard it and if they can't give you a legit source, then it's probably not true.
  • This isn't the first time that someone started a rumor about the band breaking up (and probably won't be the last time). Don't be one of those gullible people that falls for all of these hoaxes.
